What a Script Breakdown Sheet Is Used For
A script breakdown sheet is the scene-by-scene record of every production element a script requires — cast, extras, props, wardrobe, vehicles, and special effects or stunts, plus any other requirement worth flagging before shoot day. Traditionally it's one sheet per scene, filled in by an assistant director or production coordinator reading the entire screenplay line by line and tagging every element as they go.
Breakdown sheets conventionally use a standard color code per category — cast in one color, props in another, wardrobe, vehicles, and special effects each with their own — so a production team can scan a stack of sheets and immediately see what a scene needs without re-reading it in full. That same color convention carries through onto the stripboard once scheduling begins.
